•• * Это слово представляет интерес – и создает трудности для переводчика – в сочетаниях organic food (первоначально – organicallygrown food) и organic farming. Например, в словаре АBBYY Lingvo предлагаются сомнительные варианты organic farming, produce – органическое земледелие, производство (явно неверно produce – производство. Правильно – продукция, продукты; в США этим словом обычно обозначаются фрукты и овощи).
•• В США существуют федеральные нормативы, устанавливающие, в каких случаях правомерно использование этих наименований ( a set of standards that define what the word “ organic” means and which growers and products are qualified to use it – New York Times). Cудя по появившимся в этой связи статьям, синоним этого слова – chemical-free, причем речь идет о продуктах, не только не содержащих химических добавок, но и выращенных без применения химических удобрений и пестицидов. ( Organic is the gold standard for chemical-free food – New York Times) Это, по-видимому, близко к нашему экологически чистый, однако в некоторых случаях для точности лучше сказать выращенный без применения химикатов. Перевод экологически чистый дается в Lingvo, однако в словосочетаниях иногда заменяется на здоровый или натуральный. Следует, однако, иметь в виду, что последнее слово имеет у нас другое значение ( натуральный бифштекс, т.е. из не рубленого мяса).
